From the Bible it is clear that Israel is the natural soil that can nourish a Jewish soul. Assimilated Herzl was unaware of Jewish tradition and how inviolate the tradition that Jews must ultimately return to their ancient homeland. Herzl got nowhere with either the Sultan or the Kaiser; he therefore turned to the British for the keys to unlock Palestine.
